<MrMystery>
on a related note how are you with math and nerdy stuff like that
<NeverAcorned>
<MrMystery>
the answers dont gotta be right but having someone that knows their stuff is good for businesses
<NeverAcorned>
<MrMystery>
you work at the casino right
[ Stan's pretty sure he remembers seeing a post that said as much from this username a couple weeks back.
Granted, he also works at the casino himself, but he's never gone expecting to see Five there. ]

<cellist>
<MrMystery>
thats me
whos asking?
<cellist>
A customer.
Your niece (sweaterqueen) is working on an order for me. A big one. Figured I’d negotiate with her guardian over a fair price before dropping hundreds of dollars into her lap.
[ Those hundreds (!!) could be raised if Stan knows how to talk a guy up. ]
You the one running this operation?
<MrMystery>
Okay. Okay. Time to play this cool. ]
shes the creative genius here
i just handle the business side of things so she can focus on her craft
so lets talk. how many sweaters did you put an order in for?
<cellist>
Thirteen sweaters. Varying sizes for varying monsters.
She already offered me some bulk half-off deal. She must be young, doesn't realize the value of a dollar and hours worth of effort.

<MrMystery>
youre one of those guys running the restaurant yeah?
<cellist>
One of.
[ Not that he’s making much of an effort to keep a low-profile, but Slade still thinks he has the right to be put-off upon being recognized. ]
no subject
look youre right about her being young. shes just a kid and the eating people thing is rough
i dont mind doing the messy part but im no master chef you know
so ill tell you what
we figure out a price and you can either pay it all in cash
OR
pay 50% but make the rest up in food
your call
[ It's causing him actual, physical pain to turn down cash like this, but he knows how badly it went last time he went behind Mabel's back. ]
no subject
But Slade has people. He has one of his own here. There's something noble about what Stan is asking for, and it's something that a hardened killer with an irrefragable soft spot for young people can appreciate. ]
She's a manticore, right? Got one back home. From the sounds of it, they like to hunt.
Does she like spaghetti?
no subject
and of course she does
do you know a kid that DOESNT like spaghetti?
no subject
All kids like spaghetti. It's a universal fact, like how the Rangers will never win a World Series.
But it's a deal. 50% and a meal pass. Grab n' Go or dine in house.
Doesn't make a difference to me.
no subject
its a deal. pleasure doing business with ya
how many sweaters did you order anyway?
no subject
Commissioned them as party favors for a Summit I've got coming up.
What is it that you do, Stan?
no subject
[ At least she seems happy. ]
im in acquisitions right now
if you ever need help tracking down something you cant just find in the store, im your guy
Forward Dated to around the 20th
There may or may not be cookies with it that is covered in edible glitter too.]
(backdated to mid December)
[Tarkin’s not really in any condition to be seen at the moment, just moving around with his new legs can become difficult at random times, so he’s had Jongdae make the delivery for him, inside the parcel is a large bear belt, and a brief note wishing the Pines well.]
<teslacoils>
[He could waste time with pleasantries but honestly what would the point be?]
<MrMystery>
it ran for about a minute
i guess it almost ended the universe too?
but yeah i remember most of what i did
why?
[ Hahahahaha he knows exactly why. ]
<teslacoils>
I'm trying to replicate it here but my memory of that time is [MMMMMM] spotty. At best.
I have a scaled-down prototype but no matter what I do it won't stay on. If you could look it over for anything I may have missed I'd be grateful.
[It's hard to admit that the problem might not be with the task he's set himself but rather with his own shortcomings. He doesn't often talk about that period in his memory, how everything is like the contents of a drawer that's been slammed shut and jumbled up. Picking out the memories he needs from the pile has been difficult enough without other people knowing about it. It's a wonder he got his pet project to this point at all.]
<MrMystery>
sounds about right
that stupid thing NEVER wanted to stay on
i'll take a look
[ He should probably be more cautious after how the whole portal thing turned out last time, but hey: it also got Ford back last time, and he has no intention of sitting here spinning his wheels when there's something he can actually do to fix their latest bout of separation.
Though there is one thing he's concerned about. ]
you're not building in in your basement are you?
<teslacoils>
<MrMystery>
somewhere that gives you plausible deniability when the feds come knocking?
or won't be the first place someone looks if they're trying to spy on you?
or won't put your house at ground zero if the whole thing explodes?
come on haven't you ever committed a crime
[ Stan has no room to talk but look. He's better at giving advice than following it. ]
<teslacoils> when your growth is not always in good directions,
The explosion issue I'll give you but the other option was my place of business and I'm not losing my entire source of income on top of the chance we have at getting people out of here. The real thing we'll build somewhere safer, provided the little one works.
<MrMystery>
your house is some kinda murder factory or whatever
thought we had monster cops anyway
that javert guy runs a prison or something right
<teslacoils>
Javert showed up and decided he was an authority without doing anything to earn it beyond taking over the prison. Then he murdered a child for breaking a law he made up, and bragged about it publicly. You'll forgive me if I don't reckon he counts for much.
<MrMystery>
[ 'Knew' because Stan hasn't seen him since then and he's got a pretty good idea as to why.
Ugh, what a depressing subject. ]
look if you really think your reputation or whatever is enough to keep people from poking around until you're ready to make the real thing then i'll buy that
but you said it yourself. javert's a nutcase who decided he knows what best for everyone. there's never just one guy like that either
all i'm sayin is that making it harder for someone else who thinks they know what's best to get in the way could save you a lot of headache
<teslacoils>
There's a reason you're one of a handful of people that knows I'm doing this in the first place. I'm hoping I don't need to tell you to keep it under wraps.
[He wants to hope a guy so concerned about outside scrutiny would know how not to be a snitch.]
I don't want to get everyone's hopes up in case I can't deliver.
<MrMystery>
speaking of which
you got any idea how long this is gonna take?
<teslacoils>
The goal is as soon as possible. 'Possible' is the key word.
<MrMystery>
if you don't want the kids to know then we might have a problem
i don't wanna get their hopes up either so i don't mind not telling em
but if i'm going to your house over and over again for months they're gonna figure it out
<teslacoils>
I'd say tell them we've set up a poker night but I don't gamble and I'm not a great liar.
I'll put it this way. How much more of a problem will it be if they find out on their own, versus being told up front?
no subject
if we tell em now at least we'll know what they know and where they are
if they find out on their own we won't know it until they fall out of the a/c vents in matching homemade tactical sweaters
<teslacoils>
[He really doesn't want this to balloon to be too much bigger, but Stan is right, there's no way for them to not tell Dipper and Mabel that will actually result in Dipper and Mabel not finding out. Better to just get it over with.]
Do you think they'll listen if we tell them not to come near in case it does explode? I'm alright blowing myself up on accident. That's a risk I've factored in. I don't want to hurt kids.
<MrMystery>
50/50
i say let 'em show up once or twice and see how boring it actually is
mabel'll stop coming over on her own and you can distract dipper with a notebook full of math
then we just let 'em think it's another boring maintenance day when we finally turn it on
<teslacoils>
It's been long enough that he figures reaching out is worth it.]
Hello, Stanley. I hope you're doing well. I don't know if you have plans for Thanksgiving or not given it doesn't entirely exist here, but you're welcome at my house if you like.
My arm grew back. If you're curious.
<MrMystery>
Well, some things are getting away from him - but he doesn't delay answering this one. ]
sure i'll stop by
you had a nice setup last time
i remember some drink that could peel paint
[ He didn't have a single drop because he was chaperoning Mabel, but he does remember it - though he's suddenly not sure if that was Thanksgiving or Christmas. ]
congrats on the new arm
i heard that sort of thing doesn't always stick here but it still didn't seem like much fun
[ There's a bit of a pause, and then: ]
this one giving you any trouble?
