[That last part stings a little. A lot. As someone who was that guy for a while, Fiddleford would like to think he understands how dire it can be from the other side.]

There's a reason you're one of a handful of people that knows I'm doing this in the first place. I'm hoping I don't need to tell you to keep it under wraps.

It depends. If we can secure a steady power source, and that's the only problem with the prototype, building the big one could take as little as a few months. Or it could take years. It's awful hard to plan around this place.

The goal is as soon as possible. 'Possible' is the key word.

i don't wanna get their hopes up either so i don't mind not telling em

but if i'm going to your house over and over again for months they're gonna figure it out

I'd say tell them we've set up a poker night but I don't gamble and I'm not a great liar.

I'll put it this way. How much more of a problem will it be if they find out on their own, versus being told up front?

dipper's as nosy as ford and mabel's just as fearless

if we tell em now at least we'll know what they know and where they are

if they find out on their own we won't know it until they fall out of the a/c vents in matching homemade tactical sweaters

That's what I figured.

[He really doesn't want this to balloon to be too much bigger, but Stan is right, there's no way for them to not tell Dipper and Mabel that will actually result in Dipper and Mabel not finding out. Better to just get it over with.]

Do you think they'll listen if we tell them not to come near in case it does explode? I'm alright blowing myself up on accident. That's a risk I've factored in. I don't want to hurt kids.

i say let 'em show up once or twice and see how boring it actually is

mabel'll stop coming over on her own and you can distract dipper with a notebook full of math

then we just let 'em think it's another boring maintenance day when we finally turn it on
